Adenotonsillectomy
Dearest Precious Gifts-
Well, people are feeling kinda sick today .... the twins are congested and the girls have fevers. I wasn't feeling too good either so i don't know what's going around. I gave the girls medicine a few times today.
Joshua, you had your ENT appointment this morning with Dr. Dorfman (the same MD that saw the twins). They gave me a copy of the sleep study report since I had never seen it. The report came back with:
1- The patient exhibited severe sleep apnea with an apnea-hypopnea index of 23.5 (normal is 2-5, per the MD) and an oxygen saturation nadir of 87% (it should be close to 98%) ..... so you can't breath and oxygen is not getting to your brain.
2- Snoring was severe and intermittent .... which I could tell you since I 'slept' next to you that night. ;-)
The MD wants to perform an adenotonsillectomy .... remove tonsil/adenoids .... to create space for you to breath and sleep better. He said that in majority of cases of kids 3-8, this solves the issue.
The surgery days of the clinic are tuesdays and thursdays .... I was lucky I had a tuesday off for the twins and their ears. My next day off is June 2 for Grace's graduation, but Joshua would miss the next week of school .... which is his last week. Your last day is June 9th. So, they put you in for friday June 10th at 7:15am before the MD has to go to the upstairs clinics. You would need to be there at 5:30am .... same deal as the twins. The next week will be hard for you with recovery. The MD said to count on a week of you being lethargic. So, we'll have to make sure you take it easy.
After your appointment you went to school. You had music today and got a green behavior score. :-)
Twins, you two babbled a lot for speech therapy today. ;-)
Sleep tight little ones!
I love you all so much!
-Mommy
